Community Involvement HEADING_TITLE

shoe_drive_web_flyer_1100SCORE has always made an extra effort to give back not just to the soccer community but to the world. We have been fortunate in expanding our family for over 30 years and we realize the importance of giving back, teaming up with different organizations throughout the years to help make a difference. Our contributions have covered a wide spectrum and include sponsoring the Brain Tumor Society, helping children in Morocco through Operation USA, supporting the GAP program in their efforts to educate our children, and many more. As always, it is our pleasure to lend a hand to make the world a better place. Take a moment to read what some of these wonderful organizations do and how SCORE has contributed to their efforts.

THANK YOU ROSA AND TEAM SCORE!
We cannot thank you enough for your incredibly generous gift to the children and young adults of Morocco. This country is crazy for soccer and your donation of the jerseys, shorts, backpacks, socks, balls and more have been the most wonderfully appreciated gift. Everyone has been thrilled, but we don’t know who gets a bigger kick out of it – the people we give them to or us – it is just such a pleasure to watch everyone’s face absolutely light up when they get their uniforms. We have given them out to people all over Morocco, through the Peace Corps, through Moroccan Associations, and through the Embassy. They have gone to local village teams, inner city teams, kids just playing in a dusty field, to kids in orphanages, to kids in big cities to the tiniest most remote mountain villages. You have really made so many people so very happy. Thank you again, from the bottom of all of our hearts.

SCORE: American Soccer & The Gang Alternatives Program

When I came to the Gang Alternatives Program from AYSO in 2000, I was glad to be able to continue a longstanding relationship with Jill Menzel and Rosa Cursage, and also pleased to have my office just a few blocks from SCORE in Wilmington, California.

Rosa was quick to meet with me and to offer assistance in the mission I had undertaken. Gang prevention is a long way from youth soccer, yet the desire to provide positive child development and alternatives to negative lifestyles is the same in both Rosa and myself. During those first few years, SCORE provided staff shirts at no charge, provided items for our fundraisers, gave gifts for the kids, and even provided the student t-shirts at a reduced cost.

SCORE continues to support our fundraising efforts by purchasing seats and attending our events, and it still supplies t-shirts at a reduced cost. SCORE received the GAP Corporate Partner of the Year Award in 2003 for its ongoing support.

Tens of thousands of youth now wear the GAP/SCORE t-shirts as a reminder to stay out of gangs and as an emblem of the belief that “I can do better than that!” when it comes to joining a gang. I am pleased that our relationship with SCORE continues, and I am especially grateful for the extra support GAP received in my first few years here.

I especially thank Jill, Rosa, long time SCORE employee Nancy Torres, and all the other great SCORE employees who have worked with me over the years.

Best regards,
Douglas L. Semark, Ph.D.

Executive Vice-President of the Board

Operation USA

SCORE American Soccer has added an enormously important component to Operation USA's international relief projects around the world. It's called fun. Most of the medical, nutritional and shelters supplies we ship to disaster, famine and conflict zones and areas of chronic poverty, are sent to save lives or reduce suffering. Easy to overlook are products that add to that ephemeral quantity called hope. The literal thousands of pieces of soccer uniforms, plus balls, socks, etc. that SCORE/American Soccer donates to Operation USA give impoverished or traumatized youth a way to rise above their circumstances and enjoy themselves.

In hard-scrabble refugee camps or remote schools in Ethiopia, the enjoyment these children get is essentially medicine for their spirits, especially when they can wear a real soccer uniform and kick a real soccer ball, when before they wore tatters and kicked a ball made from rags, gives them a hope for better times to come and possibilities for their lives. In Morocco, orphans in the remote Atlas Mountains or in the crowed cities feel the same delight. These are just a couple examples of the joy SCORE/American Soccer has brought to children more recently, but countries in Latin America and elsewhere over the years have also greatly benefited from the company's generous outreach to needy children.

Thank you SCORE/American Soccer."

TESTIMONIALS

Hi, my name is Bill Coffman and I am a customer of SCORE. I am also a brain tumor survivor.

During my tenure as an officer of youth soccer league, I have worked closely with Rosa and many members of her staff at Score. They’re great business partners and we’ve been doing business with them for nearly two decades now. More than business partners though, they are also caring people – caring both about the individuals they come in touch with and their communities as well. I know this better than most, due directly to Score’s support after I was diagnosed with multiple brain tumors.

In a personal effort to fight back, I joined the Brain Tumor Society’s Ride for Research in 1998. An annual fundraiser started by another brain tumor survivor who was a professional cyclist at the time. Score sponsored my Ride that year and Rosa said she would be there for my every year I rode – and she has. Score has sponsored the Ride for Research every year since than… but didn’t stop there. In 2001 I had brain surgery to remove 3 tumors which started to grow aggressively. Being from Florida yet having surgery in Los Angeles meant I didn’t expect a lot of visitors. Imagine my surprise (and joy) when folks from Score showed up to visit me in my hospital room! Score and its people are the best!!!

2007 will be my 10th Ride for Research, and the list of sponsors has grown, but none of them will have been on my team longer than Score, American Soccer Company.
